Washington DC VA Medical Center seeks a Full-Time, Board Certified Psychiatrist Preferred Qualifications for the Psychiatrist: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Strong managerial and interpersonal skills
Proven track record of effectively interacting with program management and employees
Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across disciplines and programs
Effective, versatile and action-oriented
Excellent communication skills Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for the supervisory, administrative and clinical aspects of the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) continuum of care programs which champions the Department of Veteran Affairs initiative to end homelessness among our nations Veterans; the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC); the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) Program and the Compensated Work Therapy Program. Coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, and admission criteria for these programs. Responsible for various fund control points assigned to the Homeless Program and the CRRC. Manages and controls the use of data related to programs regarding day to day functioning and program evaluation. Ensures all applicable Homeless performance measures are met and NEPEC data is completed accurately and timely. Federal Retirement Plan:
VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan. The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution. For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension.
