Summary

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) has an opening on its recruitment team for a detail opportunity for 120 days from the date of assignment with further extensions possible. The recruitment team develops plans, programs and materials to support NHTSA recruitment goals. A primary focus of recruitment efforts is on STEM job positions, however recruitment activities support all offices within the agency.

Responsibilities

The Recruitment Specialist will: 

  • Work directly with senior leadership and managers to formulate strategies in the development and implementation of recruitment and outreach programs to meet future critical workforce needs. Coordinate planning efforts for strategic hiring events and programs. Represent NHTSA at recruitment events and develop new recruitment resources, such as brochures or other materials.
  • Conduct research on social media and online strategies to improve outreach for mission critical positions, and develop initiatives to complement current efforts. Also, conduct research to help develop effective strategies for reaching millennials.
  • Promote and support NHTSA participation in internship programs, such as the Secretarial Internship Program. Work with program managers to help ensure internships are meaningful and productive.
  • Develop and lead agency-wide efforts to implement employee retention programs. Work closely with training officers and other HR personnel to develop training resources that promote employee retention efforts.
  • Analyze trends in employment patterns and develop proposals to address challenges or gaps. Conduct research on retention tools used by other DOT OAs and determine feasibility of implementation at NHTSA.
  • The Ideal Candidate is a self-reliant skilled professional with experience and knowledge of recruitment concepts and principles. Prior recruitment experience is a plus. He/she will have strong communications and writing skills, be proficient in MS Excel and Word, and have the ability to work cooperatively across all areas of NHTSA and with other DOT OAs.
